Who is Scott?
Born in Southern California, Scott moved to Reno in 1994. Making the Sparks area home for over 20 years, Scott has raised his family in District F. All 3 of Scott’s children have gone to and/or graduated from a Washoe County School District school. Scott is the proud product of Washoe County School District, graduating from Reno High School in 2001, go Huskies!
Scott Benton is a seasoned leader, educator, and community advocate with more than two decades of experience spanning education, public service, healthcare administration, and youth development. Known for his fairness, integrity, and steady leadership style, Scott brings a people-first approach to every role he undertakes—combining strategic vision with hands-on experience to build strong, effective teams and programs.
Scott’s professional background includes extensive work in nonprofit leadership, public service, and community health, with senior roles across state agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations. He has served in leadership capacities for the State of Nevada, Washoe County School District, and multiple community-based organizations, managing complex operations, overseeing staff and budgets, and guiding mission-driven initiatives that support families, youth, and vulnerable populations.
In addition to his public service career, Scott has over 20 years of experience in the cheer and dance industry as a coach, judge, and mentor. He has worked at the local, regional, and national levels, serving as a certified judge for major organizations including JAMZ, Pop Warner, Varsity All. Stars and others.. His background includes coaching athletes of all ages and skill levels, developing programs, mentoring coaches, and ensuring excellence, fairness, and safety within the sport.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in History and Dance from the University of Nevada, Reno, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is completing a Bachelor of Social Work. His education reflects his lifelong commitment to communication, leadership, and service.
Deeply engaged in civic leadership, Scott has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the City of Sparks Civil Service Commission, Washoe County School District advisory councils, the Northern Nevada Public Health District, and nonprofit boards supporting youth, arts, and community wellness. Scott served as the Chair of the Safe and Healthy School Commission for 4 years. Scott is currently the Chair of the Washoe County School District’s Council for Family Resource Centers and the Chair of the City of Sparks Civil Service Commission.
